Cambodia’s next generation nowadays is proactive and open-minded. They welcome new things and have the bravery to bring themselves out of their comfort zone to learn and explore different worlds and aspects.

Seeing the momentum of youth energy in self-development and self-reliance, the government of Cambodia works the most to support and is looking forward to making the support variety. In the last decades, the Education sector in Cambodia has improved from kindergarten to higher education. However, the speed is still slow compared to the demand of the technological world. Most Cambodian students try to do their best at school, but the overcrowded classes and lack of diversified teaching methods have led to low engagement and motivation.

Good Neighbors Cambodia (GNC) has always been there for Cambodian youth and children and always placed them as the top priority of making Cambodia a place where people live with hope. Child protection, education, and advocacy are program sectors of GNC to support youth and children. We focus on and implement these sectors with attention to detail as we want Cambodia’s next generation to shine and glow in a technological era where everyone needs to be reached in education and information.

OUR INTERVENTION
Responding to the fast speed of education integration and student desire, Good Neighbors Cambodia (GNC) increased activities in each program sector, maintained a high quality of program implementation and developed new projects to support students and schools. We cooperated with schools to establish new education programs for Cambodian students to receive student-centered learning in addition to taking a variety of shapes and integrating digital classes to different degrees. Moreover, we continue to organize and host exchange programs, advocacy activities, and training to provide the young generation with education, multicultural programs, and new experiences to empower, encourage, and influence them to grow as mature future generations. These programs encourage young hearts and minds to move forward to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Let’s positive impact makes noise. After months of planning and cooperating with the local government, target schools, community volunteers, and students, GNC successfully implemented two educational programs to support the next generation as expected. We implemented the ‘Blended Learning’ pilot project at Russey Sanh Primary School with 196 primary school students. Furthermore, we hosted ‘Global Youth Network’ programs with 90 students from the Dangkao and Ou Chrov community. After joining the programs, students in our target school shared that they enjoyed their new class arrangement and the integrated lessons taught by well-trained teachers. Students and youths at community development programs (CDPs) said the ‘Global Youth Network’ is a good program that encourages their bravery, connects them to the outside world, and provides a conceptual understanding of coexistence and sympathy globally.

1.Blended Learning Project

Blended learning is an innovative learning approach that integrates traditional teaching methods with digital learning to create a more student-centered learning experience. GNC implemented this blended learning project for the first time with Russey Sanh Primary School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia by using the Station Rotation Model (SRM), one of the many possible forms in which blended learning can be applied, we create a comfortable and multi-function classroom organizational structure for students to engage with a series of learning styles and activities for a given subject. There are 3 stations in the SRM: teacher-led instruction, computer learning, and activity-based. All students will learn at each of the three stations in a given class period. Students can independently learn at the computer station, receive individualized support from well-trained teachers at the teacher station, and collaborate hands on with classmates at the activity station.

2.Global Youth Network Program

Following UN Sustainable Development Goals, Good Neighbors Cambodia (GNC) integrates Cambodian children and youths with the digital world, better education, and a chance to explore and experience new journeys in light of their young age.

Global Youth Network (GYN) is a program that makes our youth connect with foreign friends and world concerns through an online platform. This program aims to develop self-directed individuals and encourages students to take charge of their lives, participate in world concerns, and live in a world where there’s nothing blocked from the good side of living. Through this program, students also get the opportunity to meet students from other countries for multicultural exchange to develop a strong attitude of respect for human rights and diversity while making new friends around the globe.

CASE STORY

“We connect, We Change!”

Location and distance blocked some parts of Cambodia from education, general knowledge, world concerns, and connection to people who have information to share. Youth and Children grow up with the traditional education system and learn based on books and materials they see in the library. About world issues, young ages have no idea about cause and effect or how to prevent them. They get  to know when it happened.

Yin Hakseng, a grade 6th male student from Ougura Trakiet

Primary School in the Dangkao community, experienced the “Global Youth Network” this year and noticed that he should connect more with all around and far away from his household. After participating in 2023 GYN, he shared, “I have learned many things and new experiences on how people live in present society, Korean cultures (food, traditional clothes, traditional house), and learned about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He continued, “I practiced how to achieve the 15th SDGs, and I commit to continue practicing them in my daily life. I will grow more trees, clean the environment, and don’t cut the tree”.
